Why complete a degree abroad

There are tons of reasons why you may want to complete a full degree abroad, but here are a few reasons why our students specifically love getting a degree in Australia or New Zealand.

Both countries are known for their strong higher education institutions and offer programs in English. You still experience living in a new country, culture, and community while furthering your education, but don’t have to worry about a language barrier. Another major draw for studying in Australia or New Zealand is that you can often complete your degree in less time (and sometimes less cost) than in the U.S. Most bachelor’s degree programs in Australia and New Zealand take just three years, and many master’s degree programs can be completed in 1-1.5 years.

Of course, the lifestyle and connections you’ll enjoy are also major attractions. Both countries offer a high quality of life, particularly for those who love being active and outdoors, and are widely recognized for having some of the safest, most liveable cities in the world. After you graduate, you’ll be able to draw on an international network of people, potential professional connections, and experiences.

Types of degrees abroad

Similar to the U.S., both Australia and New Zealand offer bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate/PhD programs. Bachelor’s degree programs are typically three years of full-time study, except for degrees with an honours year (4th year) component. This extra year of study generally contains more research and is a pathway to further education in a professional field such as psychology, education or engineering.

Some professional degrees that are only available in the U.S. at the graduate level – such as  medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, physiotherapy, and law – are typically available at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in Australia.

Ph.D. programs in Australia and New Zealand are 3- to 5-year programs of self-directed research culminating in a major dissertation. Contact us for further information on applying to a PhD program abroad.
