ORIENTATION EXcursion
Get ready for an exhilarating crash course in Kiwi living, plus a semester orientation with fellow TEAN students. Explore New Zealand’s rich culture and environments in either Auckland and Rotorua (Fall) or in Queenstown (Spring). You can expect an introduction to Maori culture and experience New Zealand’s natural beauty. After this packed four-day program, you’ll feel confident navigating all things Kiwi with a strong foundation on which to build your semester.
Note: Students studying during the Spring semester will have their orientation in Queenstown and students studying during the Fall Semester will have their orientation in Auckland and Rotorua.
Housing
Choose from two university housing options: a private, dorm-style room in a residence hall or a private bedroom in a shared flat. In the residence hall, which includes shared bathrooms, lounge spaces, and a full board meal plan for the hall’s dining room, you’ll live with primarily first-year local and other international students. The self-catered, apartment-style accommodation comes with a bathroom, kitchen, and lounge area designed for five flatmates. Your TEAN Program Manager will provide more information about your housing options once you apply for the program.
TEAN Staff
Our team works with you from start to finish through the study abroad process. Our programs staff will help guide you through the application process to go abroad, then upon arrival in New Zealand, you will meet our team who will provide assistance during your time in-country. Throughout your semester you will meet with the Hamilton Resident Advisor for informal discussions and excursions. Our staff is readily available and able to assist you with any academic, social, or cultural questions or issues that you may face during your time abroad.

TEAN students have the opportunity to complete an internship during their semester in addition to taking 2-3 other classes. Open to all majors, internship placements are available at non-profit organizations, as well as in the corporate and government sectors, and consist of 15 internship hours across 2-3 days each week (180 hours total) that equals 15 Waikato credits, or 3-4 U.S. credits. Students studying sciences who are in their third year or higher can take a specialized, research-focused science course: SCIEN301 for group projects or SCIEN313 for individual undergraduate research projects. Some projects may require specific knowledge or experience with instruments or research methods. Ask your TEAN Program Manager for more information.

Though Bangkok is a major metropolis, this semester program is the least expensive of all TEAN offerings and offers students a surprisingly affordable cost of living. Study at Mahidol University International College (MUIC), the English-speaking arm of the esteemed Mahidol University, taking a variety of classes in English along with your Thai peers. Often considered the gateway to Asia, Bangkok is a great jumping off point to explore further afield in neighboring countries such as Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar and more. Of course, the incredible Thai street food, unique culture and varied landscape may have you wanting to just stick around the Land of Smiles!

Australia Internship
International work experience is more important than ever and one of the best ways to make the leap into working abroad is by completing an internship in Australia – a longtime leader in the health, sports and technology industries. Offering a range of internship opportunities throughout the country, TEAN works tirelessly to connect students with highly relevant placements in every trade from finance, to environmental conservation, to even sports medicine. While Sydney is a popular destination as an international business hub, other cities throughout the country also provide a variety of internships suited to meet nearly every degree or interest.
