Students studying abroad in Thailand are required to obtain a student visa (or “Non-Immigrant Visa”, Category “ED”) for their time abroad. Please read the Student Visa Application information below very carefully.  These instructions are for students completing a summer program in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

To obtain a student visa, you will need the following:

1. One completed visa application form - the visa application form (download and print out).

2. Letter of acceptance from The Education Abroad Network (sent to you by email).

3. Two passport-size photographs (2″x2″). Photocopy or photo taken from Photostat will not be accepted. Photographs must have a light color background with a full-face view of the person without wearing a hat or dark glasses. Photos must be taken within the last 6 months. We recommend using a passport photo service at Walgreens, CVS, or an equivalent store.

4. Money Order for $80 made payable to “The Royal Thai Embassy”.

5. A passport with at least 6 months remaining validity. You must mail your current US Passport to the Thai Consulate.

6. A pre-paid trackable return envelope for the return of your passport with your visa. If you do not include this the consulate will not be able to return your documents. We highly recommend using a service such as FedEx or UPS to ensure tracking of the return of your documents. We do not recommend USPS as materials have been lost in the mail before.

6. Mail the following to the Royal Thai Consulate General in Portland, OR via UPS or FedEx and ensure you track and insure your package:

  • Signed visa application
  • TEAN Acceptance Letter
  • 2 passport-sized photographs
  • Passport
  • UPS or FedEx prepaid envelope for return delivery

Mailing address:
